What is The Promise Church?
The Promise Church of Jackson is an evangelical "life-giving" church whose MISSION is to be a FAMILY where people can discover their God-given gifts and talents and use them together for the healing of individuals, our local community, and our nation.
Our worship is both HORIZONTAL and VERTICAL! It is horizontal in that our time together on Sunday mornings and during the week draws people into greater connectedness and relationship. It is vertical in that we seek to place ourselves in the presence of God through excellent contemporary worship music, biblical preaching, sharing testimonies of faith, and listening for God's voice and direction in our lives. We believe that becoming God's kingdom begins with the individual believer who is willing to surrender his or her life to Jesus and "be transformed by the renewing of his/her mind." (Romans 12:2) Life change, we believe, happens best among a community of people who are seeking and practicing the BEST that God has to offer and who can encourage each other to keep pressing on toward the good things of God.
We are decidedly an "Acts 2 Church!" By that we mean that our model for being church can be found in the following description of the first church in Jerusalem.
Ac 2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Our big question as a church is how to be most like the very first church in a different time and place and culture. People are still hurting. People are still in need of life-giving community today like they were then. People still need unconditional love. People still desire to know that God cares about them personally. There may be a lot more to the believer's journey of faith, but we believe that this scripture gets to the core of who we are trying to be as a family of God.
If this sounds like the kind of community you would like to be a part of, why don't you get in touch with us at info@promisechurch.info and we can tell you how you can become a part of our family!
